A Post After A Slumber

*Yawns*
*Looks around*
Tempted to go back to sleep.
Sigh.
*Wakes up*
Good day, Sunshine!

A Little Something:
Maybe I'm exaggerating things a little bit, but I feel like I'm changing a lot. Physically, I've managed a feat I never thought possible. I've shed 10 kilos *pride*. Mentally, I'm seeing people, past their masks. I've managed to, in only 8 months, become friends with, respect, be amazed, get inspired by, lose respect and develop anger towards the same person, in that order. This has never happened before to me. And for my sake, I hope it never does. This person and I may not be on great terms with, but I got to say, I'm grateful to her.

New Year's Blues:
A little something I typed out on New Year's 2012 on my phone:
From the amber in the past, rises a giant magnificent flame in the present, shining light, the giant, magnificent, vicious flame that is hope.

Bullshit:
For the people around me who believe their agenda is to make me resemble the female human being more than I do now, I always knew I should be just as much female as I am. This is what I ought to be; this is what people hope I am :)

One More Year Later:
Two years ago, I thought this nation was too obsessed with IITJEE.
Last year I thought this nation was too obsessed with IITJEE.
This year I think this nation is too obsessed with IITJEE.
I am, although, guilty of the charges I hold against the nation. I am re-taking IITJEE.
Why? The truth is, I can't believe I failed an exam. I need my ego back. Either I win it back or I lose more ego and hope to win it back in the greater agenda of things.

On The Brighter Side:
On the brighter side of things, I have managed to successfully rediscover my love for science in general and physics and calculus in particular. I have realised that this love for Physics and Calculus will never die in me. These are my true love. Paraphrasing what Lord Tennyson said, wrote rather: For men may come and men may go, but Physics and Calculus go on forever :)

The Probability Of Death Paradox:
Some of my friends have had the opportunity to hear of this theory I developed a while ago. I don't know if I digitalised it. I don't think so. But I believe I should because it is sort of a genius, if I may say so :D

At any given instant, the number of ways you can die = ~(infinite)
That is, sample space S = ~
Event E: The event of you dying.
You can only die once. You can't, for instance, die of poisoning and then get stabbed to death. This basically means out of the infinite ways you can die, you will actually die in only one way.
That is, E = 1
Thus calculating the probability of your death at any given instant,
P(E) = E/S = 1/~ = 0
Voila! The probability that you will die at any given instant is... *drum roll* ZERO! *Ba dum tsss*

So the paradox here is, is math deceiving us, because we do die, or is this just one of the paradoxes in science?

*Looks back at work done*
Wow. That's a lot of force. Shouldn't exert myself the day before the battle to win back my ego.
End of post.
Going back to slumber.

Hippity Bippity Bop

To start off this post, a small rhyme, if I dare call it, that I wrote:
Hippity bippity bop!
The mouse ran off the clock
The cat did a hop
and hit on a block
Hippity bippity bop
the cat became a clock!

Moving on to more unimportant yet inevitable things, being a person who has just now completed High School and awaiting the exciting new college life, I would like to represent us all out-of-High-School-waiting-for-college teenagers in asking the general public to avoid in conversation with us, if so requested by the cruel wands of Fate, the following questions:
1) How much did you get in 12th?
2) What is your [enter name of entrance exam] rank?
3a) (If you failed to obtain a rank)What other colleges have you applied?
3b) (If you have obtained a rank) What college and course will you get for this rank?
4) Why didn't you apply for [enter name of college you did not apply for]?
5) When is your counselling? (Especially painful if you're not aware of the date of counselling)
6) What are you going to do till your college starts? (Especially painful, again, if you're completely clueless about the answer to this question)

So, in conclusion, what I'd like to say is, and my colleagues would agree, that elders of the world, please stop asking us any of these questions. Also, please note that more such questions may (and will, most likely) appear on the list when you are least expecting them to do so.

Among other things, I've always wondered why I'd sign my leave letter by saying 'Yours Sincerely' because I've never gotten the hang of it's usage, especially when I'm least sincere in the letter about my reason of absence or in the general feelings towards the Addressed. Food for thought, I'd think.

I'd like to proclaim to the part of the world that is interested that I have been reading a lot of story books, watching a lot of movies and viewing a lot of TV during this Summer as I do not have a Greater Agenda to keep up with.

If I could have my way with a magic lamp with a Genie trapped inside waiting for me to rub the outside of the lamp to free him/her (33% reservation for women in India, you see) so that he/she could kindly and gratefully grant me three wishes, I'd ask for a) a million dollars b) lots of real estate in the up-and-coming localities of all major cities of the world and c) to spend many a joyful (and eventful, if so Fate wishes) Summers at a generous residence of an English Earl in a picturesque English Countryside complete with seemingly unemotional butlers, beautiful young men and women wanting to marry trying to fight the hurdles, quick witted relatives of dim witted Earls, formidable aunts, miscellaneous flora and fauna and so on and so forth.

In conclusion of this post, I'd like to say this much: Thank you and goodbye, well at least until the next post.

Random Discoveries of the Day

Bron wrapper can be used as a coaster after being folded at least twice. It's true.

After 12 in Chennai, water from the taps are going to be VERY warm.

You don't want to rinse your mouth with that water after using a strong mouthwash.

Sleeping longer than usual makes me sleepier.

Wikipedia can be more entertaining than you think.

Cold water makes me thirstier.

This Started Out As Studying For IP Exam I Swear

This blog is random in content. Very random, if I may add. The point of this blog is nothing. I don’t know, actually. Maybe by the end of it, this will all make some sense. But who is to know?

I swear I started out studying for the IP exam. But I just couldn’t get myself to care enough about computer networking to be not bored.

Zodiacs are mostly bullocks. They’re very arbitrary. They are designed to be vague and open for interpretations. And in some cases, if you notice closely enough, the positive and negative traits would actually contradict each other. And these horoscopes rarely say bad things about you. Probably the more good things you tell people the more they believe you. In any case, they have a striving business, astrologers. Not to be confused with astronomers. I don’t know how much money astronomers make. Do let me know if you find out.

Astrology is not a science.

If you notice the group dancers in opening songs of huge heroes like, say, Rajinikanth, you’ll find them dancing (which in itself is something Mr. Superstar doesn’t do) with so much more emotion and grace than Mr. Superstar himself. And that, for some reason on Earth, I find hilarious. Especially that Devuda… song from Chandramukhi, the fair dude on Mr. Superstar’s left (while facing the TV) emotes so much more than anybody else on the set xD

Other things you will find funny about TV, other than the intended funny things (not all intended to be funny things are funny, but that’s another tale) are when you mute while watching old movies especially the ones with Sivaji Ganesan. He emotes “so well” (so the elders like to put it; but I say he over emotes every single scene) that when muted he beats the living hell out of Charlie Chaplin’s dialog-less slapstick humour.

Speaking of funny and humour, I revived by passions for the hit TV series Seinfeld recently. You gotta love ‘em, man. The New York sarcastic (of which I came to know only because of this show) humour that we all love however much we try to hide it. They’re insensitive, sarcastic and in the process very funny. Jerry made me feel like I’ve accomplished something humungous in life when I first ate Cheerios. “Oh look at me, I’m eating Cheerios. Maybe I’ll grow more sarcasm, get an apartment in New York and make a funny TV show someday”. Here’s to Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza , Cosmo Kramer and Elaine Benes for bringing some laughter into my life.

These pretzels are making me thirsty! (Refer Seinfeld Season 3 Episode 11 “The Alternate Side”)

A Little Something

It's been a while since I last blogged. I have been a little busy with school and stuff. But after you've had about half a day of inorganic chemistry, to which I share a peculiarly high level of hatred, you begin to lose yourself to the heavenly hands of sleep. But that cannot be done because you know you have a deadline to meet. A deadline set by yourself but nevertheless a deadline. One man once said: "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing sound they make as they go by." The man is indeed Douglas Adams. Even though I would one day like to be like him, you know a successful author of an outrageously funny sci-fi series, I like to meet my deadlines. Or try to, in the least. Finally, what I'm trying to say is by posting this blog, I hope to wake myself up to finish a little more of chemistry before I call it a day.

My birthday is coming up. I'm not excited. I think I lost the Oh-my-birthday-yay-yay-yay excitement long back. I think 7th grade was the last time I was excited about my birthday. A sense of cynicism set in me after that, for some reason. It continues to exist. Although, now it is more controlled. Sarcasm is a tool I'd like to use all my life to do whatever I want to do.

School is getting over. Like for real. No more being a current student of P.S. Senior Secondary School after a few more months. I will then be part of an Alumni Association. Again, not excited.

College is round the corner. Where the living hell will I be going to for college? I wish I knew. I really do. But, strangely enough, I am not excited about that either.

A working theory for my no excitement at anything is that I've had too much inorganic chemistry in my life. I am hoping to get rid of inorganic chemistry as soon as possible. Off you go inorganic! That is also no exciting. So clearly, this working theory is wrong.

Maybe one day I'll research more about my lack of excitement. Maybe I'll get a Nobel Prize for my research. But that would be a little off because my research is rather self centered. Not that my research wouldn't deserve the Nobel Prize.

I love typographic errors. It is a good way to hide my bad spelling.
"Ha! Wring spelling again!"
"Who said? That is a typographic error."
"Oh. Sorry about the wrong accusation."
"That's not quite alright. You will soon be contacted by my lawyer about a legal issue of you causing me psychological pain."
"..."
One day I hope to do that.

I am pleased to announce that I have woken myself up enough to sustain a few more hours.

Questions

What is a question? What happens when a question is asked? Why do we ask questions? Are questions good? What is good? Who decides? Why do they decide? Do I get to decide ever? Do they stop deciding ever? Why do questions arise? Can questions be evil? Can I ask all the questions? Do all questions have answers? Can a question have more than an answer? Why is it called a question? Will I ever stop? Can I ever stop? If I can, would I ever stop?

My little sulking exercise

Manipulation; what does it actually mean? The dictionary says something about it, which, at the moment, I cannot reveal due to reasons of laziness and a very comfortable present posture. But this is how I see manipulation: it is the art (yes ‘art’) of getting someone else do something for you without the other person’s exact approval. Well, it goes something like this: A gets B to do some random C even though B thinks doing C is not such a great idea.
Who are manipulators? Quite obviously, the ones who manipulate other people. Come to think of it, it's not such a free world with manipulators, after all. But then, in their defense, they just asked you to do it, you wanted to do it yourself. So you could say it is the ones being manipulated who are to be blamed.
Guilt trips are unavoidable when speaking about manipulations. Guilt trips are usually pangs of guilt you feel because someone tells you things like “Do this for me, if you’re a good friend” or something on those lines; basically they are exactly the kind of corny dialogs out of melodramas. And usually the one sending you on guilt trips are pretty close to you, because only then will you think so many times to say “No” even though you know the answer has to be it. And for people like me out there, I’ve almost never been able to say “No” in any of these situations. I say “Okay” do it and then resent it for the rest of my life.
So, like any other average normal human, I hate manipulators even though it was me who should’ve said a firm “No” to all their emotional arrows and successfully did what I really wanted to do. Instead, every time I end up doing the exact opposite thing and then end up apologizing to several about this for days to come and generally feel a lot down for a whole lot of time to come. The best gift to me, right now, would be either of the two: a book that’s on the lines of “How to escape guilt trip manipulations and make the right choice” or a book on the lines of “How to manipulate your loved ones using guilt trip”, like they said, if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em!

The Cake that was promised

Cutting cake in class is vandalism; fine. Applying cake on someone’s face is more vandalism; still fine. The miscreants are to be punished; agreed. But the class isn’t coming forward with any information about who the miscreants are and hence the whole class has to be punished; very extremely fair. Making a big deal out of something which the people concerned just didn’t bother much; just what justice is all about. But what concerns me is that we didn’t get cake from Hot Breads as we were first told! That, my dear people, is what strikes me as being extremely unjust on her part. Where’s our cake from Hot Breads?! Whatever happened to justice in this world!

The Greatest Message of the Century!!

People often ask me what I feel about the kind of response my blog is getting. Of course I hide the truth from them. I say “Oh I don’t check with the responses that much, really.”
All that, of course, is considering the person in question is not a creepy mind reader. If the person were a creepy mind reader I have absolutely no clue what I’d tell. Maybe if such a creepy mind reader does exist he wouldn’t have to ask me to know right? All he has to do is start a conversation about my blogs and I’d automatically think about what I think about the response I get. So I wouldn’t have to be embarrassed after all caught red handedly while lying.
Although, people who are non-creepy mind readers can check this webcomic out:http://www.xkcd.com/635/ It is, strangely enough, relevant to the blog. And as if this level of strangeness wasn’t enough, that comic somewhat sums up how we bloggers are.
So aspiring new bloggers this message I pass on to you as no other senior blogger has passed on to me. It is out of humanness that still lingers in me and pity for co-bloggers that I say this to you. I am not allowed to tell you people this. Hence here is my clue. Decipher it oh bright ones!
Take Your Time!

The Adayar River

Adayar is one of the widest rivers of Tamil Nadu. Being a regular visitor (courtesy MRTS) it is but an absolute delight watching the mighty river stand still in all its greatness. The several exotic shades of green the river displays is a sight for the sore eyes seeing the usual boring colours of the buildings. Some of these shades of greens are unheard-of, wonderfully cheerful and artistic! Whoever said only God could come up with wonderful colours! Look what men have got out of the boring clear water of the river and a few exhausts! Everyday it's a new shade of green and on no day does it ever get boring. After experiencing this wonder I do but wonder why some people call the river polluted… only they can answer this question…

Excursion and other things

Excursion… the word usually works magic in my mind. Well it didn’t work any magic this time around. Many reasons for it. The most obvious would be the absence of the swell group we had last year. Not to mention last year was our first overnight trip and it created a lot more excitement than anything else. I doubt I’d have been more excited if my dad came into my room and announced that he’s getting me my own mobile connection with a Nokia N97 to go with it. But this year it was as less exciting as dad coming into my room to see what I was reading trying to make sure I don’t waste time creating blogs.

Well it did come as a surprise that the excursion, as it turned out to be, was as exciting as dad coming into my room to announce he’s getting me my own mobile connection. Not as good but good enough for me. Yet my mind did go to N97 and how wonderful it could’ve been… not to be blamed for it. Who wouldn’t want a mobile for her own use and N97 to go with it?

The room was better than last year’s the food was pretty much on the same levels. The value addition was, no doubt, the bonfire (and others may envy us from now) and the fact that we were in Sterling Resorts, one of the country’s leading holiday resort groups. The let down was the fact that boys and girls didn’t get a chance to travel together. As much as I fear this would be interpreted as a cliché by one and all I’d like to make a confession boys are the fun quotient of an excursion. They make sure there aren’t many a dull moments. Unfortunately we girls weren’t given a privilege of their honorable company. This I say from my heart as much as I said last year that the guys in the bus were a pain in the neck.

‘Twas fun anyway. Yes it could’ve been better but I’d say we were lucky we had this much. Among other things no one nauseated while coming downhill in our van… either everyone had the will power to get over it or everyone slept in all the bad quality sound in which Ayan was playing. Either way no one nauseated and it's good enough for us all.

Hullo!

I know "Deserted Cities of the Heart..." is going on pretty well. It is in fact much better than i expected it to be. But recently, well after I started blogging with that title, "Paperback Writer" struck me. As some of you may know it’s a song by "the" Beatles. After long hours of listening to Beatles, Pink Floyd and the likes you may have little or no knowledge about I thought ' Wont "Paperback Writer" be a good title for a blog?' well it seemed like a good idea then! And I thought of changing the name but I got so close to this name I just didn’t want to let go of it. And, as course turned out, I didn’t either. Well yet another prose blog maybe. But what to publish in this new blog? I kept thinking and thinking and thinking. I did so much thinking I ought to say people who do actual thinking in this world would’ve been jealous of how much I could think.

Unlike giving ideas for my friend’s birthday party, which if I may add is the worst job ever, this time around a little *ting* noise was heard simultaneously as a bulb glowed over my head. It was simple and crude but one of my best ideas ever, well one of my best ideas ever so far. I think I will be able to carry you through the exact line of my thought.

“What did I start ‘Deserted…’ with? ‘A vague idea of re-inventing the various treasured moments of one’s life’ like it even happened! So what did I end up doing? Well using up space for a word document to type blogs in, typing useless blogs, publishing them and forcing people I know to go through the time-consuming job of reading those pointless blogs. Seems fun and it was fun. Anyway what should I name it? Oh yes! ‘Paperback Writer’ (‘Sir or Madame…’ Oops! Singing the song!) Seems a good name. I guess it is. Fine with the name now the link? What is my first one? ‘arthiblogs’ So… nope! No ideas! Well maybe… Yep! This one is so cool I am laughing at it! ‘arthiblogsmore’ Perfect! Let me come back to these thoughts after creating it.”

And after that all I had to do was open the word page and start typing what I am thinking, or is it ‘was thinking’? And thus this blog was born! What am I going to do here? That is unanswered. I think it’ll be one of Earth’s mysteries that never get solved. But no this one will get solved, or so I believe, or so I believe I believe, or so… I should stop.

Is this one big enough? I’m not getting any more ideas! My brain hurts!
